What should I expect from my first session?

Always try and arrive 5-10 minutes early to your appointment, there may be paperwork that your therapist will need you to fill out. Your practitioner will ask you various questions regarding your reasons for your scheduled massage, as well as a background about your health history. It is important you provide your therapist with any known information regarding your health, so they may plan accordingly for your session.

Your therapist may do some assessments with you prior to your massage to determine more clearly what areas of your body might need more focus. They will also check with you about varying pressure that you may prefer as well as the areas of your body that you would like them to focus on during your appointment.

After the intake process is complete, the practitioner will step out of the treatment room while you get on the table. Know that undressing during your massage is always to your comfort level and your therapist is there to ensure that you have an effective and comfortable session.

Will I need to undress for massage?

There are some forms of massage that do not require you to remove clothing. However, for most sessions your therapist will ask you to undress to your comfort level, as direct contact to the skin allows the massage therapist to target different muscles to relieve pain and help with injury. The therapist is trained in proper draping techniques with the sheets and blankets so that you will not have to worry about exposure while on the table. Massage therapists take this responsibility very seriously and want their clients to feel comfortable throughout the entirety of their appointment.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Make sure you show up 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment to give you ample time to use the restroom and fill out paperwork. Come well hydrated, massage releases a lot of toxins in the body and its important to stay hydrated so that you do not feel sick afterwards. Wear loose fitted clothing so that you are comfortable prior to your session, as well as after.
